Chinese Culture Morning Meeting - Understanding the Five Confucian Virtues 'Benevolence, Righteousness, Propriety, Wisdom, and Trustworthiness'
Our school’s daily “Morning Assembly” also revolves around Chinese culture and the Confucian Five Virtues, sharing and learning the virtues of “benevolence, righteousness, propriety, wisdom, and trustworthiness” to cultivate children’s good character, empathy, sense of responsibility, respect for others, gratitude, law-abiding behaviour, diligence, and honesty, laying the foundation for promoting Chinese culture in the future. For example, in November and December, the theme for the month is ‘Righteousness’. We use stories to explain the meaning of righteousness, helping children understand the principles of perseverance and responsibility. In addition, we reinforce learning through various idioms, games, and home-school collaborative activities.
Flag-Raising Activities - Cultivating a sense of national awareness and national identity
During National Day, Hong Kong’s Return Day, the National Security Education Day, and Graduation Ceremonies, a National Flag Raising ceremony is held to help children recognise their country’s flag, anthem, and emblem, and to understand the importance of showing solemnity and respect while singing or when the national anthem is played.
Organise diverse activities to enhance understanding of Chinese culture
Through visits, strengthening children’s knowledge of Chinese culture, such as Tea Ware Museums, the Palace Museum, Kam Tsin Village Ancestral halls. Hold Chinese culture experience days or organise demonstrations and exhibitions, allowing children to engage directly with traditional arts, experiencing and appreciating the richness and charm of Chinese culture. Moreover, experiential learning activities and fun games will be organised, such as ancient sports and toys, or creating material kits/resources for children to produce Chinese-style handicrafts (such as blue and white porcelain, ink painting, etc.), which can be displayed and shared to help them appreciate the country’s culture and arts.
